What sparked your interest in the Viking period, and how did you pick the two voyages described.

My interest was sparked by my Grandfather, and the stories he told. Numerous visits to the Viking Ship museum in Oslo as well as other medieval sites and museums also did its part. In addition I have to admit that a general interest in history has always been an important part of my life.

The reason I chose the two first voyages, i.e. North America and Constantinople, was that these two destinations are not frequently thought of in relation to the Viking raids. As such I had to do a fair amount of research to make the trips "correctly" described, and the research part is my favorite part while writing the books.

Twilight of the North: Erik's Galley design

Was the boat that Erik designed actually a real galley or was that more fictional?
The description of the design of and use og Galley's is correct. However, his particular boat was fictional, though based upon descriptions of actual galleys. In reality the vast number of Galley's built, and the limited knowledge we have, means that there must be an almost infinite number of different designs.

To live and Die in 1030: Vikings making it to Latin America??

What evidence is there supporting the vikings possibly making it all the way to latin america??
None, However, it would not have been impossible. Compared to crossing the North Atlantic, sailing up and down the coast would have been easy. In his book "Westward Before Columbus",  Kare Prytz suggests that the descriptions in the Saga's would take them all the way down to Georgia.

I hope you have read all or part of some of my books. If you have, please note that I have tried to stay as close to history as possible. However, some editrial liberties are unavoidable. Each book contains several pages of historical notes and background material.
